Earth Day 2008

In recognition of Earth Day (April 22, 2008), A/GFTC has joined Greater Glens Falls Transit, the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls Family YMCA, and local businesses to promote alternative transportation. We encourage everyone to try other forms of transportation that do not entail driving alone during the week of April 21-27. Those that do so and tell us what they did by returning the registration form are eligible for gifts donated by local organizations and businesses. Additionally, A/GFTC staff will tally the results and compute selected health and environmental benefits that result from the increased use in more efficient transportation modes during that week. If you'd like to participate and help make a difference, please feel free to contact us for additional information regarding transportation options.

Glens Falls Roundabout now open!
Following a grand opening and ribbon-cutting on Sunday, May 6, the much-anticipated new roundabout at the intersection of Glen Street, Ridge Street, Warren Street, and Hudson Avenue in downtown Glens Falls is now open to the traveling public.

From a traffic perspective, the roundabout is a dramatic improvement from the previous signalized intersection and should have considerable benefits to motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists alike. It also has the effect of bringing the adjacent corners much closer together and unifying downtown. Despite all egress legs not being open (northbound Glen Street remains closed as work progresses) the roundabout is operating as expected. Congratulations to the City of Glens Falls for sticking with this project during a period of financial uncertainty. A/GFTC staff also wishes to acknowledge the tremendous cooperation displayed by A/GFTC committee members and member municipalities that saw this project as a worthwhile investment in the regional transportation system and made the necessary program sacrifices to see that the project was built.
