Exit 20 Corridor Management Plan
Creighton Manning Engineering and GMB Engineers and Planners were hired to prepare a Corridor Management Plan for the Exit 20 / Factory Outlets / Great Escape vicinity in the Town of Queensbury. The study area included the intersection of Route 9 and Route 149 south to the intersection of Route 9 and Round Pond Road. The Plan addressed existing traffic congestion issues that are very acute during the summer tourism season for Lake George.
Transportation facility design elements were considered, but this was not just a design project. Public transit operations, existing and future land uses, development potential, access management, shared parking, improved bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and intersection improvements were all considered as part of this effort. The result is a plan that is imp
lementable, complimentary and consistent with the goals and objectives that have been identified through previous Town and County planning processes. A Study Advisory Committee was formed to oversee this work. Participants included local property owners as well as staff and elected officials from various organizations.
After technical data was gathered and the Study Advisory Committee met, three Public Work Sessions were held. Each one was a very productive forum that generated a number of issues to be addressed as well as some new and creative ways to address them.
The information gathered at each work session was presented to the Study Advisory Committee in order to develop a consensus on the existing and future issues and opportunities that will be priorities for further evaluation. A draft plan was produced and public comment was solicited.
As a result the final Plan was adopted by the A/GFTC Policy Committee and the Town of Queensbury. A copy of the Plan can be found here.
Shown on the right is an excerpt from the Plan that details a roundabout option for the study area.
